Shannon Haraga-Bhatia, is thrilled of her 20th year of teaching at Hope School and for the Anaheim Union High School District!
She grew up in Cerritos, California and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of California, Irvine (UCI) in 1994 and with a Master of Science in Special Education from California State University, Long Beach in 1999. She believe it was her fate to have landed here at Hope School. She is blessed to have a younger brother who has autism. Growing up, she saw the challenges presented to him, not just by the community, but also in the realm of education. At the age of 6, she knew that she would dedicate her education and career towards teaching kids with disabilities. As a teenager, she used to visit her brother at the Diagnostic Center at Cal State University, Los Angeles, where they first coined the term “Pervasive Developmental Disorder”, which we have come to know as the term “autism”. While working on her teaching credential, she was a student volunteer at Hope as well as a volunteer coach after school for Special Olympics. She started her teaching career at Hope School in 1998, the same year that her brother graduated from Hope, and has been here ever since. She cannot imagine anywhere else she would rather be working. As she always states, "I suppose that I will always be 'FOREVER a TIGER!!!'"
Teacher Message: I currently live in south Orange County with my husband, 9-year old son, and twin 5-year old daughters. I enjoy cooking, watching movies, travelling, playing basketball, and but most of all, spending time with my family. My favorite quote is from Benjamin Franklin, "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn."
