Mrs. Pam Running teaches in a self-contained classroom with students who have significant physical and medical needs along with cognitive challenges. She teaches them English Language Arts, Math/Science, Communication, Music and Art. She obtained her BA in Community Health Education from CSULB, Education Specialist credential CSULB, MS in Special Education.
This is her 14th year as a teacher at Hope School. She taught as a Resource Specialist for a year prior to coming to Hope, and as an Instructional Assistant for 2 years before that. In her OTHER life (prior to teaching), she ran an independent living program for adults with disabilities who lived in their own apartments in the community.
Since her students are with her for the majority of the school day, they work on various functional and pre-academic skills throughout the day. Communication is an important component, and students are offered a variety of ways to work on their communication skills. Simple voice output devices, access switches, choice boards, and picture cards are used to help students access their environment and have opportunities to communicate. She believe that all students have something to say; we just need to find a way for them to say it!
Teacher Message: I love to read, and on weekends you will usually find me, at some point, with my nose buried in a book. I also love music, and sing with a praise band at church from time to time. In the evenings, my husband and I are often watching baseball: Go Dodgers!
